Her parents moved to Dallas soon after she was born. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School of the Performing and Visual Arts in downtown Dallas. She also spent six years with the renowned Dallas Theatre Center and one year at the theatre's Encore Company. Before her big screen debut, she began her career as an actor in the theater.
